Does your blog do this?

Do you think about what specific results you want when you create a blog post? Or, do you simply post articles because it’s part of your content strategy? 

It’s only by being purposeful and knowing what you want your blog to do that you can turn it into your most powerful marketing tool and ensure it’s worth the time and energy you put into creating it. 

Below are a few of my favourite things that blogs can do. So, ask yourself, does your blog?

Keep generating leads while you’re not working

Including clear prompts on what action you want your readers to take, and information on how they can contact you or work with you, means that your blog can generate new leads for you. All while you get on with everything else that you need to run your business or even while you’re taking some time off!

Let your audience know who you are (And, how good you are)

Your blog is the perfect place to show potential customers who you are and what your business is all about. Tell them:

  • about your services or products, and what makes them stand out from your competitors

  • your values and beliefs that are important to you and how you’ve carried them through to your business. 

  • how your business works, what buying from you will be like and what they need to know beforehand

  • who your products or services are for. And, who they aren’t suitable for!

Help your customers build a connection and get to know (like and trust) you before they’ve even spoken to you, and move those sales a step closer!

Give people a reason to tell their friends about your company

We all know how great it is when you get a new sale or client through a recommendation, but this type of lead is often limited to securing those customers who are pretty much ready to buy. 

Writing high-quality, informative blog articles about your sector opens up the possibility of people recommending your brand at a much earlier stage in the customer journey. This could even be before the potential customer is aware that they have a problem that you can solve!

By encouraging people to share your content, you’ll have your own group of cheerleaders helping spread the word on your behalf. 

Help you build partnerships with other brands

Talking about the businesses you work with or admire in your blog can help you to build relationships with them, and sometimes even helps you to get your brand in front of their followers. 

Make sure you not only tell your readers about the products or services they offer but also why you like them and how their values align with yours. 

Stop you from having to repeat yourself

If you find that there are certain questions you repeatedly have to answer or information you have to make sure every enquiry or customer knows, why not write a blog post covering it? 

It’s much easier to send someone a link than write out the same text each time, and it can serve to reassure people who haven’t reached out to you yet that you will be open and honest with them. 

You may already have a FAQs page on your website, but a blog article means that you can go into much more detail. You could always link to the article from your FAQs page as a “find out more” if the information needs to be included in there too.
