Why you should have a business blog

If you’re not blogging to promote your business, why not? It’s effective, economical, and easy to do.

Read on to find out why it’s one of the best things you can do to promote your business.

It’s rocket fuel for your website

I’m yet to meet a business owner who said they don’t want more traffic to their website. It’s something we’re all after – and I bet you’re the same. More eyes on your products or services. More potential customers seeing your brand and finding out about you.

Blogging can help to drive more traffic to your website in a number in a number of ways. The simplest way is that it shows your website is active, which ticks a big box for search engines.

When you publish a new blog post, it adds a new page to your website. This means more pages to be indexed by search engines and more chances to show up in organic search results. Especially if you get your SEO right.

Writing a blog post that will be relevant and useful for people for a long time to come, a “how to” post for example, means that people will keep coming across your content time and time again. This type of content is called “evergreen content”, and it’s brilliant as it can drive traffic to your site for months or even years.

It boosts your social media presence

Having interesting content to share on social media is key to increasing your following. Blog posts not only provide you with this fodder, but they are an easy way to direct traffic back to your website from your social media platforms.

More importantly, if you write something of value, other people will also share your blog on their accounts, getting you exposure in front of a new audience.

You can build your mailing list

All this lovely traffic is fantastic, but what’s even better is that by using a newsletter sign-up form on your blog posts, you can capture potential customers’ info. Once you have a mailing list, you have a primed audience that you can send new releases, special offers, and product information to.

It gives your company a heart, soul, and voice

It’s commonly said that “people do business with people they like” and this transfers to brands too. Building a personality for your brand will allow prospective customers to feel like they know you and your company, and blogging is an easy way to bring your brand to life.

The combination of tone of voice, what you write about, and how you write it will form part of the persona. You can convey images of trust, fun, professionalism, or quirkiness — whatever suits your company, and show people what you are all about.

It gets you noticed

Writing informatively about your industry — whether that’s clothing, hairdressing, or website design — showcases you as the expert that you are. If you are really successful at this, people will begin to seek you out as a reliable source of information and trust your brand.
